Clarence Hoard of Lostine died Feb. 3, 2006, at Adventist Medical Center in Portland of natural causes. He was 81.

He was born Nov. 15, 1924 to Clarence Hoard Sr. and Ruba Mae Brown Hoard.

He received his high school diploma after he went into the military. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He married Loretta A. McDonald Aug. 31, 1968 in Sandy. He worked as a truck driver for 25 years then worked as the caretaker of the Lostine Cemetery for 13 years.

He spent his retirement as a handyman for senior citizens in Wallowa County. His hobbies included building handcrafted airplanes.

Survivors include his wife Loretta; sons Wayne of Junction City, David of Brush Prairie, Wash., and Carl of Portland; daughters Jane Conway of Newberg and Donna Haggstrom of Sandy; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Graveside services have been held at the Lostine Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Home Health Hospice in care of Bollman Funeral Home.
