Corey Dale Stonebrink, 45, of Wallowa, retired Operations Specialist Chief Petty Officer of the U.S. Navy. died at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho.
He was born May 17, 1965, in McMinville to Donald Stonebrink and Darlene Pearson.
He started school in Carlton for one year before moving to Wallowa, where he graduated from Wallowa High School in 1983. He was involved in sports during his high school years.
He joined the Navy in 1984, and spent the next 20 years Chief Operations Specialist, serving in the Persian Gulf, Japan, Taiwan, Russia, South Africa and Phillippines. His last ship was the USS Blueridge out of Japan.
Mr. Stonebrink was married to April Li Tamondong July 29, 2002, in Japan.
After retiring from the Navy, he worked as chief analyst manager of Odyssey systems consulting group in San Diego, Calif., where he was head of Po-Sheng Taiwan project.
He then returned to Wallowa County to farm in the Leap area with his family.
He attended the Lostine Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing karaoke and helping other people.
He is survived by parents Donald and Charlotte Stonebrink; wife April Stonebrink; sisters Kathy (and husband Rodger) Benedict, and Diana (and husband Dennis) Harvey, brothers John Stonebrink, and Melvin (and wife Dena) Stonebrink; stepsister Bonnie (and husband) Elwayne Henderson; stepbrother Larry Long; and stepdaughter Jesibel (and husband Nathan) Truelove.
He was preceded in death by his mother, sister Debbie and brother Gary.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Lostine Presbyterian Church. A military service with military honors will follow at Lostine Cemetery, with dinner for family and friends planned at the VFW Post 4307 hall in Enterprise.
