Gail "Doc" Grove, 82, of Scio, died recently after suffering a stroke while riding his mule from a deer hunting trip in the Wallowa Mountains. He was Life Flighted to Bend where he died on Oct. 18, 2003. He was born April 7, 1921 in Bartlesville, Okla.

After receiving a veterinary medicine degree from Texas A & M University, he worked as a vet in Newport from 1945 to 1979 when he retired and moved to Scio to ranch and raise mules. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 85 in Newport.

Survivors include his wife Ernestine; seven daughters, Georgia Grove, Garnetta Day, Misty Grove, Gail Philo, Glenis Chapin, Gina O'Seanecy and Gwenette Powers; a sister, Oma Lee Ruddiman; a brother, Wayne Grove; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, Nov. 2, at Scio Middle School at 2 p.m. Deschutes Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
