Jack was born July 26, 1927, in Wallowa, to Harry and Pearl (McGinnis) Coleman. He graduated from Wallowa High School in 1945.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jean Storms, whom he married in La Grande on Oct. 3, 1959; children, Jackie (Steve) Ramsing of Cambodia, Rebecca (Greg) of Central Point; grandsons, Patrick Ramsing, Peter (Allison) Ramsing; older sister Geraldine Melton.

His parents preceded him in death.

Jack served in the US Navy at the end of WWII and was called back to duty for the Korean War where he served on the USS Kermit Roosevelt.

Jack was self-employed and founded Coleman & Chrisman Insurance in 1956. He also prepared many income tax returns until his retirement in 1989. At that time Jack and Phyllis became “snow birds” and spent many winters in Yuma, Ariz. In 1989 Jack and Phyllis moved to Eugene to be closer to Jackie and her family. In 2008 they sold their place and moved to Yuma full-time. Due to health reasons, they moved to Jacksonville, Ore., in 2013 to be closer to their youngest daughter Rebecca.

Jack and Phyllis ventured all over the United States, Canada and abroad visiting family, friends and would usually run into someone they knew along the way. Jack loved to cook, and among family and friends was known for his amazing meals. He also assisted Santa Claus for many many years in helping spread joy and putting smiles on children’s faces during the Holiday Season.

Jack was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, Charter Member of the Elks Lodge, member of the Wallowa Methodist Church, and for many years was the Veteran’s Officer for Wallowa County.

Following the service, the family invites you to the Wallowa Senior Center to share your stories and celebrate Jack’s life. In lieu of flowers, suggested memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children of your choice, Wallowa Methodist Church Memorial Fund, or the Jack Coleman Memorial Scholarship Fund, Wallowa High School (contact info: Wallowa School Foundation, c/o Dawn Crow, PO Box 533, Wallowa, OR 97885).
