Kirk Watson of Joseph passed away at his home Sept 24. He was born Aug. 10, 1967 in Lewiston to Dennis Watson and Linda Watson (Kirkland).
Kirk grew up on farms owned by his father and grandfather in Anatone and Pomeroy, Wash. He graduated from Asotin High School in 1985. In 1988 he married his high school sweetheart, Angie Blimka. Kirk and Angie started their family in 1990 with the birth of their son Jacob, and then had another son, Dillon, in 1993.
In 2000 Kirk and Angie divorced and Kirk left the farm to move to Spokane, where he continued his diesel mechanic career at Roman Machinery. In 2003 he moved back to Lewiston to be closer to his boys. He enrolled at LCSC, where he then met his second wife Emily Benzing in 2004. Soon after this he began losing his eyesight (a complication of diabetes) and had to quit taking classes and claim disability. Kirk and Emily bought a house in Nezperce, Idaho, where he went on creating wooden furniture with the help of his family.
In the fall of 2008 Kirk and Emily separated. Kirk moved back to Lewiston for a short period before he went to Boise to attend school through Idaho Commission for the Blind. With the help of ICBVI he learned how to continue his woodworking trade with very limited vision.
In 2011, Kirk finished up in Boise and moved back to Lewiston. With the help of New Bridges Community Church, he started a small business named “Blind Craft” that manufactured engraved signs. Kirk loved his church and his friends he met through the Lord, but due to his health and eyesight challenges he decided to move to Joseph in February of 2015 to be near his sister Shelly Steen. In Joseph, Kirk met a new church family where he continued living and serving the Lord.
Kirk loved all of his friends and family but his boys and their families were his pride and joy. He always looked forward to the next text picture or visit from his grandkids. Kirk was an amazing friend, brother, son and father and he will be missed by everyone that he touched.
Kirk is survived by his parents Dennis (Shirley) Watson of Pomeroy and Linda Kirkland of Custer, Wash.; sisters Shelly (Shawn) Steen of Joseph and Dawn Watson Cardona of Lynden, Wash.; sons Jacob (Ashton) Watson and Dillon (Sierra) Watson of Lewiston; grandchildren Remington, Kenzi, Jayden and Hunter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Two celebrations of life are being held for Kirk: 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Abundant Life Assembly in Enterprise and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 at New Bridges Community Church, 2102 8th St. in Lewiston. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Federation of the Blind.
