Mary Esther Waterhouse, 99, died April 3, 2005, at a nursing home in Boise, Idaho. She was born July 26, 1905, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Roy and Mary (Bowen) Morrill.

Mrs. Waterhouse graduated from Girls Latin High School in Boston and received a scholarship for two years at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. She worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance and then Boston Employment Agency, where she worked until she retired.

In 1926 she married John Douglas Challis, who passed away in 1984. She married William Waterhouse, who also preceded her in death, along with a son, John Douglas Challis, who died in 1974.

Mrs. Waterhouse was very active in her church, attending St. Johns Episcopal Church in Plymouth, Mass.; St. Paul's in Brookshire, Mass.; and Trinity Church in Boston.

She transferred from a Boston nursing home to the Wallowa Valley Care Center in Enterprise, where she spent many happy years.

She is survived by her son Richard Challis of Troy, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at the Wallowa Valley Care Center on April 20 at 4:00 p.m. Her ashes will be buried with her parents and brother in Boston. Memorials in her memory may be made to the Wallowa Valley Care Center.
