OBITUARY: Marlyn Allen Riggs

Marlyn Allen Riggs of Enterprise died Feb. 17, 2014, at the age of 66 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Wash., from complications of influenza/pneumonia.

Marlyn was born Jan. 27, 1948, in Richland, Oregon, to Fred and Jennie (Ashby) Riggs. He was the twin brother to sister Merrilyn Seal and the younger brother to Frank Riggs.

Marlyn was hired as a district field assistant in Baker County with the U.S. Department of Interior/U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Animal Damage Control (ADC) on April 26, 1971. He transferred to Wallowa County in 1983, where he made his home in Enterprise and continued his career of 43 years with the ADC until his death. He will always be remembered as “the Wallowa County Trapper.”

Marlyn enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, early morning coffee with “the coffee crowd,” and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Marlyn was predeceased by his mother, Jennie Jean Riggs.

He is survived by his father, Fred Leroy Riggs of Richland, Oregon; twin sister and brother-in-law Richard and Merrilyn Seal of Halfway, brother and sister-in-law Frank and Roseanne Riggs of Richland, Oregon, son and daughter-in-law Coy and Jody Riggs of Enterprise, son Wade Riggs of Huntington, daughter and son-in-law Angie and Wayne Marlin of Huntington, and grandchildren, Karlee and Hayley Riggs, Robert, Blake and Makaela Wiley, and Devin Merritt.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at 1 p.m., at the VFW Post 4307 in Enterprise.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wallowa County Fair, 668 NW 1st St., Enterprise, OR 97828.
