Richard Brent Atherton died while traveling in Palm Springs, Calif.

He was born in Sioux City, Iowa. He was a principal design engineer with the Boeing Company before retiring.

He is survived by his wife, Judy (Johnson) who grew up in Wallowa County; son Richard; daughters Nicole Donaldson and her husband Mark and Julie Elli and her husband Zohar; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. April 24 at Lewis Creek Park in Bellevue, Wash.
