I was home to Wallowa County over the Christmas holiday. One thing I have found as we grow up and move away is the old saying, "you don't realize what you have until you lose it." Every time I return to the county I am so thankful to be from such a magnificent place with such special people.

Though I could write pages about the wonderful scenery and community in Wallowa County, I have a specific area I would like to address: Ferguson Ridge. While being born and raised in Joseph, I never took advantage of Fergi. Just not my thing, I suppose.

But this year I came back with my husband, and we decided to check it out. What we found besides beautiful scenery was a mountain full of people having fun, and willing to lend a hand! We jumped right in and, yes, became the tourists who couldn't ride the T-bar, and did some tumbling down the hill once we got to the top!

We enjoyed ourselves immensely! The fact that a local club joined together to give the community such a great asset is not something commonly found in today's world- it's a breath of fresh air.

I personally want to thank everyone who created Fergi, has worked so hard to keep it going, and those diehards that are still working there! Our community owes you a great deal of gratitude! Just one more reason Wallowa County is a special place.
