When it comes to the global warming issue, the Chieftain sure attracts letters and columns from some real radicals. Opposing strong actions to combat global warming is crazy! We must be conservative and heed the nearly 100 percent consensus among the peer-reviewed scientific community that human caused global warming is a real and serious problem. And we must play it safe by pursuing conservation, efficiency and renewable energy, all of which will also benefit our household, local, state and national economies.
And here's the bottom line - even if human caused global warming is a myth, it's still in our best interest to pursue the same actions, as most greenhouse gas emissions come out smokestacks and tailpipes mixed with poisons, such as mercury and heavy metals from coal fired power plants and carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and other toxins from motor vehicles. In other words, if human caused global warming is real and we don't take strong action to curb it - we'll suffer catastrophic consequences, but if we take actions to reduce global warming gasses and human- caused global warming turns out to be a myth we're still ahead in terms of health, quality of life and economy.
Anyone who would ignore science and argue against efficiency and the reduction of poisons in our environment is truly a radical!
