I urge the citizens of Wallowa County to support the formation of a Wallowa County Fairgrounds District by voting in favor on Nov. 2. The maximum tax of 19 cents per $1,000 assessed value would raise $100,000 per year to operate and maintain the fairgrounds.

I have been associated with our county fair for more than 40 years as a parent and an FFA adviser. I know personally the benefits gained by young people and their families involved in both 4-H and FFA programs.

Along with these important youth programs, the Cloverleaf Hall and other facilities benefit the public for wedding receptions, memorials, Old Time Fiddlers, Cowboy Poets, Broncs and Bulls, the Ranch Rodeo, Mule Days, Juniper Jam and important public meetings.

If we can raise $100,000 per year to maintain our county fair facility, it is local money well spent.
