I was very pleased to read the Voice of the Chieftain's editorial ("Arts are vital, even in small communities," Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023).
Targeted arts funding from the state for rural areas is greatly needed. I am certainly in favor of the two bills currently before the state Legislature that were mentioned in the editorial.
Reemerging from the last two years has been a challenge for our local nonprofit arts organizations. This kind of funding will help us “reprime the pump” to once again offer a full range of arts events in Wallowa County.
We greatly appreciated your mention of the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance's monthly Tunesmith singer-songwriter concerts. Like the Josephy Center and Fishtrap, we, too, offer a full year's worth of arts programming with concerts, dances, festivals and music camps.
