The following poem was written by Penny Stein of the Enterprise area, a longtime resident, who thought readers might enjoy her humorous Christmas verse.
Saint Nick - We Ain't
This ain't ol' Santy comin' now - we ain't got no sleigh.
We ain't got no long white beard (might be a little grey).
We ain't got no big red coat with all that fancy trim
And we ain't got reindeer prancin' 'bout - not ary tiny hoof
And I don't think that none of us could get up on your roof.
Now we ain't seen no elves about - but happen that we do -
We'll surely send em 'round your way so they can visit you.
Sure we ain't got no gunny sack that's full of pretty trinkets
And we ain't got no gallon jug (I think somebody drink it.)
Now guess you know we ain't ol' Nick - we made that pretty clear,
But just the same, we wanted you to have a little cheer.
Guess all we got is "wishes" - but we got a heap o' them
For you to have a holiday that's full clean to the brim.
We wish you lots of Christmas cheer and when that's most used up.
We wish you just enough left o'er to fill your daily cup.
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.
