Matt Bunch scored 20 points and Brett Smith 14 as the Baker JV boys easily handled the Wallowa Cougars 48-30 in Wallowa Friday night.

Leading 14-12 late in the second quarter, the young Cougars went into an horrific shooting slump over the next two quarters of play as they were outscored 22-4. By the time Randy Spaur drove the lane to convert a twisting layin WHS trailed 34-18 and the damage had already been done.

Wallowa Coach Gerry McLain described the game as a possible low point in his seven or eight year coaching career. In addition to not shooting well, the WHS unit did not run its offense, did not rebound well and did not talk on defense, he said.

Spaur was the only Cougar in double figures with 17 points.

McLain suggested that it was the first home game for his young squad and that his players were very nervous. "Hopefully it will serve as a wake-up call," said McLain of his team which had not been intense in practices during the week.
