The Nyssa Bulldogs opened an early lead and withstood a furious Joseph rally in the fourth quarter to earn a 59-49 win over the home standing Eagles Saturday night. Trailing 50-28 at one point, Joseph closed to within six points in the closing minutes, but lacked the firepower to overcome all of the Bulldog lead.

Mitch Holliday and Jared Rasmussen led a balanced Nyssa attack with 15 points apiece. Cole Lathrop (21), Dustin Gibbs (13) and Eric Butterfield (10) scored all but five of Joseph's points.

Joseph Coach Ron Lathrop described the shorter Bulldogs as "quick and scrappy". He said that the visitors effectively clogged the middle, forcing Joseph to shoot from outside. He said that his Eagles had a good selection of shots from the perimeter, but were unable to score consistently from long range.

An inability to convert free throws was again a problem for the Eagles. They were only able to knock home seven of 17 opportunities while Nyssa converted 10 of 11.

Joseph only scored five points in the third quarter, being limited to an anemic two of 17 shooting during that eight minute span of time. The good news was that Nyssa had a cold offensive quarter as well, only scoring 10 points. Entering the fourth quarter JoHi trailed 45-28.

Lathrop said that the Bulldogs converted four of their five three-point field goals in the second period when Nyssa stormed into a 35-23 halftime lead.
