The Wallowa girls basketball team gave themselves an early Christmas present on Friday night demolishing the Baker JV team 63-22 in Wallowa.

Junior,Mysha Oveson led the Cougs dropping in 19 points. Sister, Lynique Oveson and Amanda Wilson also had a big game for Wallowa with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Wallowa controlled the game from the opening tip by utilizing a relentless defense and fast break offense throughout the contest. "We run the fast break on offense every chance that we get," said Wallowa Coach Greg Oveson. "This team is probably in the best shape of any team that I have coached at this time of year," he added.

The Cougs jumped out to a lopsided 33-11 advantage at the half-time and continued to roll over Baker in the second half out scoring them by a 30-11 margin.

After half-time Oveson thought that his team might come out flat because of their advantage. "They did the things that I asked them to do and played with the same intensity as they did in the first half, " Oveson said.

The Wallowa coach said that he was really pleased with their weak side defensive play. "We generate our enthusiasm off of our defense," he said. "We're coming along and by January we'll be ready."

The Cougars will face off against cross county rival Joseph in the Wallowa Lions Christmas Tournament next weekend. Weston-McEwen and Imbler are on the other side of the tournament bracket. "No matter who we play it will be two tough game and that will be good for us," Oveson said.
