"Our biggest problem all weekend was that we couldn't shoot the ball very well," said Wallowa Girls Basketball Coach Greg Oveson.

The WHS team dropped its first two games of the preseason over the weekend falling to Pine Eagle 42-29 Friday evening and Weston-McEwen 62-36 on Saturday.

Wallowa made a dismal four of 27 field goals in the first half of play against Pine Eagle. They carried their shooting woes into the first half against Weston-McEwen hitting only three of 29 from the field. "You're not going to beat anybody doing that," Oveson said.

Part of the problem for the Cougs was lack of defensive pressure. Offensively they were in too much of a rush not looking for the extra pass for the open player which put them into a higher percentage shot selection." We sat down at half time both nights and decided to slow thing down that improved our execution which gave us a lot better looks at the basket in the second half," Oveson said.

The Coug gals were out of sync from the start against Weston-McEwen, allowing the Tiger Scots to go on a 19-0 run to dominate the contest for the first 13 1/2 minutes of play. Weston-McEwen also committed ten fouls in the first quarter that Wallowa was unable to capitalize on.

Sarah Bomberger had the hot hand for the Cougars against Weston-McEwen, hitting for ten points from the field in the contest.

"It's preseason and we've got bugs to work out," Oveson said. "That's what preseason is for and we'll get better," he added.
