The Joseph Eagles turned in convincing wins at Imbler over the weekend, defeating Grant Union 46-29 for third place honors at the Wapiti League Wrestling Dual Tournament.
JHS started out against Union, defeating the Bobcats 66-0. The Blue and Gold wrestled seven matches against Union, all of which were won by pins.
Joseph wrestlers Clayton Lowe and Mike Gamboa had the fastest pins. Lowe at 189 pounds defeated John Waite in :41 seconds with Gamboa pinning his opponent Mike Seale in :46 seconds at the160 pound weight class.
"We pinned everybody from top to bottom," said JHS coach Dave Yost. " It was a real team builder."
Joseph faced Pine Eagle in their next match-up but lost to the Spartans 38-33.
The Eagles turned their efforts toward Enterprise, defeating the Red and Black 48-24 before facing off against Grant Union for the number three spot.
Yost commended Joseph senior Ryan Barstad's performance during the tournament, saying that he was really impressed with his wrestling. "Ryan wrestled as tough as anybody," Yost said.
Barstad chalked up victories at 140 pounds, pinning Bradley Lindsey of Pine Eagle and defeating Sterling Horn from Grant Union 11-8.
"Our kids wrestled as a team and became mentally tough," Yost said. "That's good heading into district," he added.
Nyssa walked away with the team title after defeating Imbler.
