For the second consecutive year, the boys of Enterprise High School boast this district's best track-and-field team.

The 2008 Blue Mountain Conference champions successfully defended their title May 9 at this spring's meet in Stanfield. Senior Patrick Baird won the 800-meter race, junior Jaymes Butterfield the discus, senior Dusty McAuliffe the high jump. McAuliffe also anchored a victorious 1,600-meter relay, including junior Jacob Micka, freshman Marcus Lynn and Baird. Combining their gold with numerous second-place rankings, the boys captured another team trophy.

Joining the individual winners, the boys secured spots in another five events at the upcoming state Class 2A championships. Senior Matt Fisher was second in two of the district's competitions: the high hurdles and shot put. Likewise, sophomore Matt Perren took second place in the intermediate hurdles and high jump. And McAuliffe will race in the 400.

Meanwhile, senior Tricia O'Leary qualified for three of the girls' events in the state championships. She won the district's long jump and triple jump. Together with sophomore Alex McCadden, senior Kayla Foster and junior Joscelyn Stangel, the long relay finished in second place.
