A determined Wallowa Valley Girls All-Star Team had no reason to hang their heads after a second-place finish at the state tournament in Klamath Falls last week.
The team defeated Hood River on Wednesday 6-2 followed by a 7-6 win over South Suburban in the bottom of the eighth inning. The win force a second game with South Suburban on Saturday for the championship.
South Suburban won the title bya score of 11-2.
All-Star, Kayla Foster belted a two run homer in the final game.
Boy All-Stars end season 2-2
The Wallowa Valley Boys All Star finished their season with a 2-2 record after district play July 5 and 6.
Trenton Neal was the winning pitcher in their first contest as WV downed Pilot Rock 5-1.
Caleb De Boie connected for an out of the park two run homer in the fifth.
Tyler harshfield commanded the mound in their second game throwing a no-hitter. Neal connected for a three run homer in the second followed by a three run homer in the third by Andrew Wilson. WV won the contest 11-0.
The All-Stars faced powerhouse Pendleton in their third game of the tournament. WV held the lead after five inning after Wilson hita solo blast over the fence to give Wallowa Valley a 3-2 edge. WV committed a number of errors in the bottom of the fifth that allowed Pendleton back into the contest with four unanswered run for a final score of 6-3.
The final game of the tournament saw WV take on Milton -Freewater. Milton-Freewater built a three run lead at the end of one and continued to hold WV scoreless until the fourth inning when the All-Stars got on board with two runs. Neal hit another homer in the seventh but Milton-Freewater came back in the bottom of the inning scoring two runs to ice the game 5-4.
