Tyler Harshfield returned near the top of the scoreboard.

Ten months since the last golf season, the Wallowa High School junior took second place March 20 at the Heppner Invitational on the Echo Hills Golf Course. Harshfield finished 18 holes with just 85 strokes.

Three more veterans played for Wallowa. Senior Casey King scored a 101, senior Andrew Wilson a 110 and sophomore Mitchell Swift 124. Meanwhile, three newcomers made their debuts. Junior Jake Schaeffer shot a 128 and freshman Chris Swift 150. Freshman Shawna Chrisman was the only Wallowa girl at Echo. She played half of the course, totaling 76 strokes on nine holes.

"For having only two days of practice, we did pretty good," coach Marvin Gibbs said. "Everybody has room for improvement. After spring break, after we get some more practice in, we'll see what happens."

Next, Wallowa golfers are scheduled to play April 3 at the Pendleton Country Club.
