The name Hayes is synonymous with winning.

Young Ethan Hayes - an outstanding seven-year-old wrestler from Enterprise with a record of 57-1 this season - already is a state champ. He captured the title March 8 at the Oregon State Collegiate Championships, put on in Newburg by the Oregon Wrestling Association. And his big brother, Brock, took second place at the same tournament, one week after competing in the state's high school championship meet in Portland.

Over the two-day event, Ethan added seven more victories to his record. Wrestling in the 55-pound weight class with 20 other kids, he outscored them 22-0 and claimed two pins. Meanwhile, Brock advanced to the finals in division of bigger opponents. After weighing in 119.3 pounds, he had to compete in the 125.

Both of the Hayes brothers qualified for the 12th annual Cliff Keen Reno World of Wrestling Championships April 3 through 5 in Nevada.
