WILSONVILLE — Two local teams take to the basketball court on Friday, Feb. 24, pushing toward a state title. While one already has a first-round victory on the record, the second is just starting play and will do so on the road.
The Powder Valley girls advanced to the second round of the 1A tournament after a 24-22 victory over North Lake/Paisley on Feb. 21. The Badgers will leave the comfort of their home gym and take to the road to meet Country Christian, the fifth seed in the tournament.
The Cougars host Powder Valley after finishing 20-7 for the season and are currently on a nine-game winning streak. The Valley 10 League champions and the Badgers both fell to Crane during the season.
Also on the road but just starting a state run, the Enterprise girls basketball team will be in Gervais on Feb. 24. The Outlaws enter the game with the 13th seed, while the home court Cougars are the fourth seed.
Gervais enters round one of the 2A tournament coming off a loss the Salem Academy on Feb. 17. The Cougars currently have a 22-4 overall record and a perfect 14-0 Tri-River Conference record.
Enterprise coach Dan Butterfield and the Outlaws played the season to a 15-10 overall record with no common opponents with Gervais.
