The Joseph Eagles boys’ basketball team finished out their season in Baker City at the district playoffs losing to the Cove Panthers, 52-22.

Coach Larry Wells said, “For the first quarter we played pretty good, the boys shot well. For the next quarter and a half Cove put on the defensive pressure.”

At the end of the first quarter it was Joseph 9 to Cove’s 14. At the end of the third quarter it was 42-12. In the fourth quarter Cove was preparing for next year playing the J.V. kids. Joseph scored 10 points ending the game 52-22.

Eric Lara played well for Joseph as did Masa Yamamoto who made 4 of 6 from the free throw line.

The Eagle boys finished up their year with a 1-9 league record

Coach Wells said the boys knew it was going to be a tough season. “There are some powerhouse teams in the 1-A Old Oregon League conference. We met some goals this year and fell short in other areas. We played well as a team together. Nobody pointed fingers at each other, and we played through the adversity.”

Larry Wells has been coaching some of the kids on his team since the sixth grade. He said he is looking forward to next year with the boys talking about basketball camps coming up this summer. “We are possibly going to have 8 returning seniors and with this experience we should meet and exceed our goals next year.”

Jokingly Wells also wished for a 7 foot post player to show up at the Joseph High School during the off season.
