A baseball program that launched in 1995 will not field a team this year because too few players turned out to play the sport.

Because only nine players turned out for the co-op Joseph-Enterprise baseball team this season, the season has been canceled, says Enterprise Athletic Director Randy Morgan.

He says he hopes those athletes turn out for either track or golf instead.

Joseph Superintendent of Schools Rhonda Shirley says it was within the past 10 years when Enterprise began cooperating with the Joseph baseball program.

When the program launched 17 years ago, it wasnÂ’t part of Joseph High School, but instead was sponsored through a private baseball association.

Shirley says JHS got involved in stages, first stepping in to pay transportation costs for the team.

Whether this only is a one-year baseball hiatus or a longer interruption for the Joseph-Enterprise team is not known at this time.
