The Eagles volleyballers had a solid day at the BMCC Jamboree in Pendleton on Saturday, finishing 3-3 overall, which put Joseph in a tie for third in the field of seven teams.

Coach Kendall Hayes was happy with the outcome.

"Overall, I was pleased with how the team did, especially considering that we were missing three of our probable starters this weekend. We had people playing in positions that they've not played, and they all adapted pretty well. Julie (Butterfield) was hitting well, and Denae (Micka) and Kerri (Gleasman) did a great job on defense and setting. We got hurt a little on our blocking, but our hitting was not bad. I'm excited to see what they can do this season," she said.

Joseph played six times in the single-game round robin tournament, triumphing over Helix, Pilot Rock and Echo, and staying close with the Pendleton JV, Stanfield and Riverside. Pilot Rock placed first, with a 5-1 record, losing only to the Eagles in its final round. Stanfield and Riverside tied for second, with 4-2 records. Joseph and Helix came in third at 3-3, Pendleton's JV finished 2-4 and Echo finished 0-6. Joseph's six games came down as follows: Joseph beat Helix 26-24, lost to the Pendleton JV 25-22, lost again to Stanfield 25-18, suffered their third loss to Riverside 25-16, then picked up their last two games, beating Pilot Rock 25-20 and Echo 25-11.

Butterfield was a definite threat, with 21 kills, nine blocks and 10 digs. Emily Williams also scored big points, with 12 kills and two blocks. Micka had a very good day at setter, with 18 digs and 18 assists. Gleasman had a great all-around game with nine kills, 11 digs and 12 assists. Brooke Moncrief had five kills and an impressive 16 digs. Beth McClaran had 10 digs, Darcy Witherrite had nine digs and a kill and Mandy Stroebel racked up two digs and a kill.
