Three golfers from Wallowa High School began this season with strong games March 19 at the Heppner Invitational over on Echo Hills.
Junior Mitchell Swift needed only 101 strokes to complete the 18 holes. Freshman Cody Swift shot a 103. Cody had been ahead by two strokes after the first half of the tournament, before they traded places in the back-nine. Mitchell cut three strokes, while Cody added three.
For the girls, sophomore Breanna Wallace managed consistency in her debut and wound up scoring 132. She posted a pair of 66s.
Meanwhile, senior Luke Pringle and sophomore Katelynn Burns encountered difficulties. Pringle started well, but struggled over the second-half of the course. His scored climbed up to 132. On the other hand, Burns improved from trouble on the front-nine and ended up with a 152.
"A lot of kids were gone on spring break already," coach Marvin Gibbs said. "We should have everyone back for our next tourney."
Wallowa's team will travel April 2 to Pendleton Country Club.
