Both the boys and girls Enterprise High Schools teams were 1-1 over the last weekend on Dec. 28 and 29. The teams played Willamina and Tri-City Prep in the Les Schwab Tournament in Pendleton.

The girls first defeated 3A school Willamina, 32-24, in the opening round. Coach Mike Crawford said that their opponent plays a strict game of ball control, which accounted for the low score. Crawford said it took awhile for the ladies to adjust to players they’d never seen and the slow pace. The end of the first quarter saw the game tied at two.

The Outlaws picked up the pace in the second half behind the efforts of senior Ashlyn Gray, who scored eight, followed by Reece Christman’s six points and five contributed by Riley Gray.

The Tri City Prep game saw the Outlaws on the short end of a 56-38 score. The Outlaws shot only 22 percent from the floor, which helped account for the score. One of the Tri-City players scored 40 points, which Crawford said was the most a single player ever scored against the Outlaws in his 29-year career.

Shelby Moncrief led the scoring with 11 points while shooting 50 percent from the floor. Gray and Karli Bedard each contributed eight points to the cause.

The weekend left the Outlaws ladies with an 8-2 overall record and ranked fifth in the state.

The Outlaws boys lost both of their weekend contests –– a 38-36 heartbreaker to Willamina and a 44-51 loss to Tri City Prep.

Coach Larry Wells said the team is looking better with things falling into place, particularly in the post position. Point guard Trent Walker had returned after a tonsillectomy.

Tri City Prep’s defense held the Outlaws to their lowest output of the year.

Brett Greenshields led the scoring, pouring 16 into the bucket while Dylan Marr had six.

The losses left the boys with a 3-7 record overall.
