On Saturday night at Powder Valley High, the Joseph girls' basketball team got its 11th win in a row. With the dominating presence of sophomore forward Nicke Parks, the Lady Eagles soared on their way to a 55-23 triumph over the host Badgers.
At 6-foot-3, Parks dominated the post. Playing just half of the game, she seemed to do everything. In addition to her 22 points, she snagged eight rebounds and five of them came on the offensive glass. However, scoring wasn't the only part of her game.
Defensively, Parks shut down Powder Valley. She made four steals, and when the Badgers did manage to get a shot, her sweeping arm length rejected a pair of those.
Powder Valley got a scattering of offense. Junior Candra Clark and freshman Jamie Brown led the Badgers with eight points, each. They also got five from junior Hailey Miguez.
When the powerful Eagles return to the court, they will take on the local rival Wallowa Cougars. Earlier this season, on Jan. 20, Joseph pounded Wallowa, 69-31.
In a home game on Friday night, the Lady Eagles got 12 rebounds and 11 points from Parks in a 66-35 thrashing of Cove. Megan Yost scored 13 points, while Paige Bailey had 11, according to Coach Lance Homan.
The Eagles escaped the opening quarter with a slim lead but in the next frame, they blew away Cove and went into halftime, having more than doubled-up on the Leopards 33-16.
