A modest three-game win streak was snapped Saturday night when the Wallowa girls basketball team was crushed 54-29 by the powerful Powder Valley Badgers. With Wallowa trailing 26-14 at the half, Powder Valley applied a smothering half court press to start the third quarter and scored 21 unanswered points to push their lead to 47-14,

Wallowa Coach Greg Oveson said that his troops could only manage four shots on goal during the third period, making three of them.

Joell Bain led the Badgers in scoring with 19 points while Miller added 12. Lynique Oveson was the only double digit scorer for Wallowa with an even dozen counters.

WHS's starting guard Mysha Oveson did not make the trip to Powder Valley for disciplinary reasons.

The loss drops Wallowa's season mark to 3-12, 3-5 in Old Oregon League play.

Oveson spoke highly of his opponents, noting that they have too many good players to even try to concentrate on Bain.

The Coug-gals will entertain Crane Friday night, then visit Cove on Saturday.
