The road to state ended for the Joseph’s girls basketball team last night at Adrian with a 49-47 loss. Eagles coach Lance Homan said that the sixth-ranked team in the state with its 22-3 record was a tough draw for the 18th-ranked Eagles’ opening round.
“Last night was tough. Adrian’s good. Our seniors stepped up and our team stepped up. Adrian doesn’t lose many at home,” Homan said
The coach noted that playing the much smaller Adrian gym with the fans right on top of them and an out-of-bounds that ended nearly adjacent to the walls proved a learning experience for the Eagles. Still, he wasn’t disappointed in his team’s performance.
“To go in there and have a shot at the end to win or tie showed that the girls’ efforts to win were phenomenal,” Homan said.
Alexis Sykora led the Eagles scoring thumping the bucket for 20 points. Emma Hite hit for 12 points while Ally Cooney knocked the hoop for eight points.
