A one-point second quarter and early foul trouble for Anna Yost spelled doom for the Joseph E-gals Friday night resulting in a 43-34 loss to the Elgin Huskies. Yost, who has led the E-gals in scoring all season, picked up her second foul with six minutes remaining in the first quarter followed by her third 30 seconds into the second period. The Joseph senior sat out most of the game because of her foul troubles. Joseph's scoring dried up in the second quarter with their only point in the period coming from a Julie Butterfield free throw. Joseph was 1 of 9 from the charity stripe in the second period and 16 of 32 overall for the game.
Butterfield took charge after the half time break, scoring 11 of her team high 14 points in the third period. "Julie was attacking the basket and seemed to be more willing to play like she can," said JHS coach Dan Butterfield. "It took us a bit to get into the groove without Anna."
Elgin held an 11 point 33-22 lead at the end of the third quarter. Joseph outscored the Huskies 12-10 in the final period but were unable to overcome their third quarter deficit.
Josie Cross led the Huskies with 17 points.
"We didn't rebound well which allowed Elgin to score points," Butterfield said. "Overall we are still gaining momentum and making progress, we just need to get there,' he added.
