Tom comes a-courting

Tom turkey and hens - photo

Rain or shine, the show must go on. At this time, tom turkeys are courting mates in the northeast Oregon woods. Many have departed from their winter haunts and are moving to spring nesting areas. According to local telemetry studies conducted by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, the birds will move up to 15 miles in this annual migration. Oregon’s two-day youth turkey hunt begins on April 13, followed by the general season beginning on April 15.
