A reminder: Angling for bull trout is prohibited in the Northeast Zone except for the Wenaha and Imnaha rivers. Also, most northeast Oregon streams do not open until May 22. Open April 24:Long Creek, Rowe Creek Reservoir, Seventh Street, and Anson Wright ponds, Magone Lake, Bull Prairie, Marr and Wallowa ponds, Morgan Lake, Olive and Strawberry lakes, Peach Road pond (Ladd Marsh), Roulette pond, Tepee and Honeymoon ponds(not stocked until late May), Victor Pond, Wallowa Lake, Willow, Rhea, and Butter creeks, and McKay Creek above McKay Reservoir
Open May 22:Grande Ronde, Wallowa, and Imnaha basin streams, John Day Basin, Kinney Lake
John Day Basin: All streams in the basin will be open to trout angling May 22. ODFW reminds anglers that all rainbow trout 20 inches and larger are classified as steelhead in streams in the John Day Basin. Anglers are also reminded that a slot limit is in effect for smallmouth bass in the John Day River from Kimberly downstream to Tumwater Falls.
Umatilla River: About 5,000 spring chinook are expected to return to the Umatilla River this spring, and angling should be good. The spring chinook season is open April 16 to June 30. Consult the 2004 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations as special regulations are in effect.
Walla Walla River and Tributaries: Open May 22. All streams within the Walla Walla basin are restricted to flies and lures only. Angling for bull trout is prohibited.
Wineland Lake and Searcy Pond: Due to a change in ownership, these private ponds will not be stocked this year.
