The Wallowa Valley combined cross-country team spent another fruitful journey away from home at the Baker Invitational on Sept. 28. The ladies placed first among 10 teams while the boys, again led by freshmen, placed fourth in a field of 10.
The lady Outlaws took home the trophy with a mere 43 points while the metropolis of La Grande placed a distant second with 67 on the score sheet.
Ellyse Tingelstad led the Outlaws, cruising to a second place finish overall with a smoking time of 20:45.22. Sophomore Kyla Hook landed in the fourth spot overall with a time of 21:08.55. Not to be left out, Ella Coughlan and Ashley Wilson placed 10th and 11th with times of 22:00.55 and 22:03.36.
Even with one of the team’s three freshmen horseman out of the picture, the boys put in an impressive performance as Zac Knapp rode his horse in for a time of 17:26.99, a fourth place finish overall. Bayden Menton sailed in not too far behind with a time of 17:57.47 for the seventh slot.
Reece Nelson and Ian Goodrich cooled their heels after times of 19:40.83 and 20:10.93 respectively.
The squad next travels south to the Crosby Invitational in Ontario at Treasure Valley Community College on Thursday, Oct. 4.
